HHCJ Assumpta Girls Model Secondary is a day school belonging to the Congregation of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus. Mother Mary Charles Magdalene Walker the Foundress of the Congregation responded to the call of Bishop Joseph Shanahan who had begged for Rev. Sisters to come to Africa and help out in the missionary work. Mother Charles Magdalene Walker built many schools and hospitals.
HHCJ Aladinma was born out of a request of parents who wish that their children/wards who began their kindergarten/nursery/primary education with HHCJ may have the opportunity to attend HHCJ secondary school also.
The first registration for the candidates started on the 13th of September, 1999 and the first Entrance was conducted on the 20th of September, 1999. The school started with a good number of fifty students with Rev. Sr. Stella Maris Nworji as the first Principal. Subsequently, the following handmaids have served as principals of the school: Sr. Catherine Dioka. Sr. Elizabeth Kalu, Sr. Evangeline Enyi, Sr. Providentia Igwe and presently Sr. Philomena Madu
The school is purely a girl school equipped with modern learning facilities. It has equipped Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Basic Technology and Home Economics laboratories. It has French laboratory and Computer room with internet connection. The students are also involved in Dress making and Dying & bleaching. The school stands on the foundation of good moral upbringing and development of the Girl Child. Following the dignity for human labour, we teach and inculcate in our girls the spirit of hard work leading to self reliance.
In academics, our students stand out among their contemporaries in the external and internal examinations. HHCJ Assumpta Girls’ Model Secondary School has maintained steady and excellent performances in both Senior and Junior School Certificate Examinations; (WAEC, NECO, BECE) all to the glory of God. In the extracurricular activities, the school has worn honours and certificates of excellence.
The school activity starts 7:30am and closes 3:45pm. Compound cleaning period is between 7:30am and 7:45am while between 7:45am and 8:00am is the Morning Assembly period. Class starts 8:00 am prompt. The external exams taken in the campus includes WAEC, NECO and BESCE (Junior WAEC).
The school participates in all the top competitions in the nation. Below are just to name a few : Cowbell Mathematics Competition, St. Patricks Feast day Competitions, Children’s Day competitions, STAN Mathematics Competition, etc.
There is moral instruction every Thursday of the week and Holy mass celebrated two or three times termly. Students are prepared for the reception of first holy communion yearly.
There is continuous assessment to ginger and follow up the students learning and tests are conducted before the termly examination. There is an aura of calmness in the environment as you approach the school during the learning periods. The staff are dedicated to the teaching for effective learning.
The holistic education of the girl child is more captured in a boarding school than a day school. HHCJ Assumpta Girls’ Model Secondary School is borne out of this interest to really give our girls a continuous care. It is a pure boarding school which started with only 38 students on the 12th of September 2016.
